There are so, so many events of interest to lawyers - online teleseminars and webinars, onsite workshops, bar association programs and events sponsored by non-lawyer groups. At the same time, many lawyers offer informational talks and seminars to prospective clients, but may have difficulty attracting an audience. Finally, many new solos or attorneys venturing into a new practice area may want an opportunity to observe an interesting trial or argument - but currently, there's no way to figure out when these cases are taking place.
So enter, Lawagora - a marketplace of events for or by lawyers. For now, Lawagora is in beta mode, which means that you are not merely invited, but urged to add as many events as you can come up with. At present, there's NO charge for listings. Here's just a sampling of events that you might want to publicize on Lawagora:
(1) Webinars, teleseminars, conferences, CLE programs and workshops on any topics, from substantive legal issues to marketing and practice management, that would have some interest for lawyers.
(2) Webinars, teleseminars, conferences and workshops on law related matters sponsored by a lawyer or firm for consumers, businesses and the general public. Sample topics could include a local event on estate planning or avoiding foreclosure or a national webinar on features to look for in hiring a lawyer or any other topic intended to educate potential consumers of legal services.
(3) Networking events, parties, social gatherings and meet ups where lawyers can socialize and build relationships with other lawyers or potential clients.
(4) Trials, oral arguments, hearings or public proceedings where you would welcome the attendance of other lawyers or members of the public to observe and learn from your performance. A great way to help new lawyers learn skills and to showcase your abilities to other colleagues.
(5) Trainings and intake sessions sponsored by pro bono organizations - a great way to increase participation.
(6) Bar association events - increase attendance and revenues to the bar. Ideal for bar associations that lack a centralized mechanism for disseminating information.
(7) Advertise the release of an e-book, whitepaper or study at your website.
(8) Any other event you can think of - be creative!
The only rule is that you use common sense in postings. If you post about an event well in advance, feel free to post a second or even third follow up referencing the original post. But don't bombard the board with repeated posts about the same event. I reserve the right to remove excessive posts.
